Ramadoss describes Guru's arrest as vindictive
Chennai, Jul 5 (UNI) Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder leader S Ramadoss today described the arrest of party Treasurer 'Kaduvetti' J Guru in an attempt to murder case as ''vindictive''.
Condemning the arrest, Dr Ramadoss, in a statement here, said Guru was initially charged with bailable offence, but later police foisted attempt to murder charge, which clearly showed that the police had acted at the behest of the 'high command'.
In his capacity as President of Vanniyar Sangam and Treasurer of the party, Guru was taking part in party functions, but police had foisted a case, stating that he was absconding, Dr Ramadoss said.
Whenever Mr Karunanidhi becomes Chief Minister, it has become a routine for him to foist cases against Guru on one pretext or the other, he alleged.
The arrest of Guru and other party office bearers and the raids conducted by the police at their houses in Perambalur District reminded of a 'mini emergency', he said, adding this showed DMK Government's vindictive and anti-democratic attitude.
Dr Ramadoss said it was natural for the PMK volunteers to get agitated over the arrest, but they should be restrained and organise protest demonstrations in a peaceful manner. Under no circumstances, they should resort to violence or give room for anti-social elements to exploit the situation.
Party volunteers should not cause any hindrance to general public and disrupt public transport in the state, Dr Ramadoss said.
The party would seek legal recourse to secure the release of Guru and defeat all the vindictive actions of the DMK Government, he said.
