Rain lashes isolated areas in Punjab, Haryana
Chandigarh, Jul 5 (UNI) Monsoon rain lashed isolated places in Punjab and Haryana and many areas in Himahcal Pradesh since last night, providing respite to people from hot weather conditions.
In Punjab, moderate rain lashed Mukerian and its adjoining areas overnight, recording 38.1 mm downpour till this morning.
The holy city of Amritsar recorded 8.8 mm and Nangal Dam 4.9 mm rainfall.
Certain areas in Haryana also had rain. Ambala measured 11.8 mm while Panchkula reported one mm rainfall.
Moderate to heavy rain lashed mid and lower hills in Himachal Pradesh, bringing a considerable fall in the temperatures and triggering landslides at some places. All rivers, including the Beas, the Sutlej and the Ravi, and their tributaries flowing through the state were in spate.
Heavy rain pounded Nahan, headquarters of Sirmour district, recording 27.7 mm downpour while Dharamsala, headquarters of Kangra district, and Solan registered 19.6 mm each rainfall.
Berthin, Kahu, Sujanpur Tira, Nagrota Surian, Guler and Una also experienced moderate to heavy downpour overnight.
Shimla and tourist resorts of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, too, were lashed by intermittent rainfall. The capital town recorded 4.2 mm rainfall till this morning.
Chandigarh and its adjoining areas were also lashed by heavy showers last night, giving relief to the people from hot weather conditions.
Moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours, the Met Office said. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in the region during the period.
