New comprehensive Police Act for Goa soon: DGP

Panaji, July 5 (UNI) A new comprehensive legislation to strengthen the Goa police, replacing the old Police Act of 1961, is underway.

Disclosing this to mediapersons here today, Director General of Police B S Brar said the legislation would make it mandatory for all house owners to submit antecedents of tenants to the police.

Though submitting credentials was made compulsory by the authorities, under section 144 CrPC, the house owners were not bound to submit the details and no punitive action was defined for violation.

The new legislation would however, take care of these and other aspects, as part of tightening the security measures in this international tourist destination.
