Nepal to amend Constitution on July 5
Kathmandu, Jul 5: The Nepal Government is set to table a supplementary amendment bill at a Constituent Assembly (CA) meeting here on Saturday, July 5.
A cabinet meeting on Friday, July 4, evening endorsed the supplementary bill prepared by three parties and approved by five parties of the Seven-Party Alliance (SPA), Nepalnews reported. The cabinet also decided to nominate 26 Constituent Assembly members as per the list submitted by nine parties. Earlier, five parties of the SPA had approved the draft of the supplementary bill through which the interim Constitution will be amended to fulfill Madhes-based parties demands.
However, the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have stated that sufficient time has not been given to discuss the phraseology to be used in the supplementary bill.
The big three parties finalised the draft of the supplementary amendment bill after four days of marathon talks.
According to UML leader Bhim Rawal, the meeting agreed to finalise the draft including the phrases which will act as the basis for all agreements forged between the Government and the Madhesis.
The Madhes-based parties have been disrupting the Constituent Assembly session since last Thursday, pressing the government to fulfill their demands.
