Mizoram police seize seven ak rifles, rocket launcher

Aizawl, Jul 5 (UNI) Mizoram's police today seized a car and recovered seven AK 47 rifles, a rocket launcher and 23 rounds of ammunition from the vehicle at Vairengte checkgate bordering Assam.

However, the driver of the Bolero from which the arms were recovered managed to run away, while the personnel were busy frisking it, Vairengte police said.

The good looking vehicle had already drawn suspicion as it was often spotted at Champhai town near Myanmar border in Mizoram, police said. " We were on the lookout for drugs, but found arms instead," they said.

The Shillong-bound vehicle had two registration plates, namely, ML-05 C 6206 and MZ -05 D 1186, with police believing the latter indicating Mizoram to be original.
