Mango Mela begins today in Pinjore
Pinjore, Jul 5 (UNI) Haryana Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha today inaugurated the 17th Mango Mela at Yadavindra Gardens here.
In the two-day Mango Festival, 2,000 mango varieties will be being displayed from various states like Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
''This mela provides a unique opportunity for the people of this area to see and taste the best of Mango varieties and products,'' Mr Chatha said.
''The Horticulture Department is making strenuous efforts to improve Mango cultivation in the state. The farmers are being imparted training at Horticulture Training Institute, Uchani (Karnal) to encourage them to take Mango cultivation,'' the minister added.
To overcome the problems of processing, distress sale and to reduce ''post harvest losses'', the state government is establishing four food parks at Saha (Ambala), Dabwali (Sirsa), Narwana (Jind) and Rai (Sonepat),'' he informed.
