Karunanidhi steps up campaign against communal forces

Chennai, July 5 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and veteran Dravidian leader M Karunanidhi today stepped up his ''campaign against communal forces'' and exhorted partymen to give a deep burial to forces, which worked against rationalist ideals.

The DMK leader's campaign against communal forces assumed significance in the backdrop of BJP senior leader L K Advani's demand that the Manmohan Singh Government at the Centre seek a confidence vote in Parliament, in view of the crisis over the 'nuclear deal'.

In an indirect attack on BJP and other Sangh Parivar outfits, which tried to take advantage of the present situation, Mr Karunanidhi in his poem, said the future would hold good only for parties, which eschewed casteism and communalism.

Those who stood above casteism only could achieve and only a secular government would be hailed as a ''Humane Government'', he said.

Calling for fostering communal harmony, he warned that differences on community and religion would only lead to divisions.

Hitting out at the BJP and other Sangh Parivars for demolishing the Babri Masjid and trying to stall the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project (SSCP), he said communal parties had no right to lead the people in the dark.
