Defence officials pay tribute to late Sam Manekshaw
Mumbai, Jul 5 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to former Field Marshall and Military Cross recipient, Sam Manekshaw, who expired on June 27 this year, by Western Region Defence Chiefs in a condolence meeting organised at Sena Cinema of Navy Nagar in South Mumbai here today.
Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan recipient, Manekshaw was remembered for his exploits on the battle field, especially during the Indo-Bangladesh war, 1971 and also for his towering personality.
Chief of Army Staff Gen Deepak Kapoor, Admiral Sureesh Mehta, and AOC Air Commanding-in-Chief M Matheshwaran paid floral tributes to the Field Marshall.
Priests belonging to the Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Christian and Parsi community prayed for the departed soul after which the officers present signed a condolence book.
