Bardhan intensifies threats to UPA on Nuke deal

Kolkata, Jul 5 (UNI) Alleging that the Congress was precipitating a crisis, CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan today said the Left parties might withdraw support to the UPA Government even before the Prime Minister returns from the G-8 summit in Japan.

''If somebody wants to precipitate a crisis, we might have to withdraw support to the government even before the Prime Minister returns from Japan,'' he told a press conference.

He was replying to a question on the comment made by Congress spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi on the July seven deadline set by the Left Parties for the Government to clarify whether it was going to the IAEA to strike the safeguard agreement on the nuke deal.

Mr Singhvi had said setting a deadline was 'discourteous.' The CPI General Secretary said it was decided in the last Left-UPA meeting that before going to the IAEA, the Government would show the text of its proposals to the Left parties but had not done so.

''We can not help but withdraw support to the Government if it goes ahead the way it is doing,'' he said.

Mr Bardhan, however, said the Left Parties would decide their future course of action on July eight or nine if the deadline was ignored.
