200 arrested in curfew-bound Indore
Indore, Jul 5 (UNI) More than 200 people have been arrested for arson and violence even as house searches continued in the curfew-bound Indore city, where tension prevailed despite official claim about improvement in the situation today.
Criminal cases have been registered against three police personnel in connection with death of two people in Khajarana area during violence on Thursday, official sources said, adding that heavy loss to property due to arson and stone-pelting was reported.
Isolated incidents of violence were reported after curfew was imposed in entire city yesterday, official sources said, adding six people were killed in violence which took a communal turn during the VHP-sponsored Bharat bandh on Amarnath issue on Thursday.
Curfew remained in force though it was relaxed for one hour this morning for women, milk vendors and newspaper hawkers. The administration is considering to give further relaxation in the afternoon, if situation improved, sources said.
Police launched a drive to fish out unwanted elements and arms during house searches. Six people were killed, 32 injured and more than 200 arrested in connection with arson and violence in the last two days, the sources said.
The government announced ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the next of kin of deceased, Rs 50,000 to seriously injured and Rs 10,000 to other injured, the sources added.
