2 held for stealing detonators in Karur
Karur, Jul 5: Two more persons were arrested in connection with the stealing of detonators from a private godown in Punnam Chathiram Village of Karur District recently.
Police said more electric and ordinary detonators were already recovered, following the confession by eight accused arrested last month, in connection with the case.
The arrested persons were Sakthi and Velusamy, both from Soragai Village in Salem District, police added. Interrogating of Sakthi, who had surrendered before a court in Salem two days ago, led to the seizure of 4,600 electric detonators and 2,400 ordinary detonators from Kundampatti Village in Omalur Taluk in Salem District yesterday.
The explosives were seized from a private blue metal unit in Mettur in Salem District.
An initial complaint lodged by the godown owner P Murugesan said that over 17,000 detonators were stolen. Later, he informed the police that as many as 41,500 electric detonators and 10,000 ordinary detonators were stolen from the explosives godown.
The special team had recovered 26,500 electric detonators and 4,800 ordinary detonators.
Police were on the look out for two more persons. The arrested were allegedly involved in stealing explosives from godowns located in remote areas and had been illegally selling the same to quarry owners, police suspected.
