16 candidates disqualified from contesting elections in HP
Shimla, Jul 5 (UNI) The Election Commission (EC) has disqualified 16 candidates who had contested the two-phase Vidhan Sabha elections in November and December last in Himachal Pradesh, for failing to submit their election expenditure statements, State Chief Electoral Officer Manisha Nanda said today.
They would not be allowed to contest parliamentary and Vidhan Sabha elections for the next three years from June nine, this year, she said in a release here.
Ms Nanda said action had been taken against Lok Janshakti party's Rajesh Sharma (Shimla constituency), Mr Ram (Ghumarwin), Gyan Chand Thakur (Biajnath), Deepak Sharma (Nagrota), Porus Thakur (Shahpur), Chaudhary Devi Ram (Kangra) and Maheshwar Singh (Gopalpur) and independents Surinder Rajput (Shimla), Ranjit Kumar (Kasumpati), Budhi Singh Chauhan (Ghumarwin), Ashok Kumar (Gagret), Dilawar Singh (Jawali), Vyas Dev Mishra (Baijnath), Balbir Chaudhary (Shahpur), Ramesh Chand (Balh), and Mr Tej Ram (Bhartiya Bahujan Party) under the Section 10 A of Public Representation Act, 1951.
