K'taka to recruit 9,000 teachers

Bangalore, Jul 4 (UNI) Karnataka Social Welfare Minister D Sudhakar today said the department has planned to recruit at least 9,000 teachers on a contract basis to improve the academic standards of students in its hostels.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the department would appoint part-time teachers for teaching mathematics, science and English to students belonging to SC, ST and Backward Classes (BC) and minority communities.

For the first time, the department would also conduct monthly tests for monitoring the academic progress of the students staying in about 3000 hostels across the state, he said.

He said the state government was planning to construct its own buildings for about 600 hostels, which were now in rented buildings, in four years time.

The minister also announced the suspension of Pandurangappa, an officer from Kolar, for misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 1.48 crore.
