Malnutrition main cause for Polio in India: INPPC

Kolkata, Jul 3 (UNI) Malnutrition is the main cause for the prevalence of Polio in our country, while India, Pakistan and Nigeria are the worst-affected by Polio throughout the world, Indian National Polio Plus Committee (INPPC) officials said.

''India still faces the problem of polio epidemics and malnutrition aggravates the disease because sanitary conditions are poor. Lack of knowledge about the disease and its treatment is also a major concern,'' district PPC chairman Gora Mukherjee told newspersons here yesterday.

He said the Rotary foundation had taken up multifarious activities, including awareness programmes through the media, involvement of prominent religious leaders from the minority communities, leading personalities from the sports and entertainment world and several NGOs and educational institutions.
