India re-launches AWACS programme
New Delhi, Jul 3 (UNI) In a bid to maintain vigil over its air space, India today announced the re-launch of its prestegious Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) programme.
Highly placed sources in Defence Ministry said, as part of the programme, India will buy three Embraer EMB-145 aircraft from Brazil in a USD 21 crore deal. The AWACS system will be mounted on these aircraft.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a deal with Embraer manufacturer.
The aircrat will be ready for delivery in the year 2011.
