BJP leader injured in attack by party rebel
Gurdaspur, Jul 3 (UNI) Gurdaspur district BJP president Gurdip Singh Riar was seriously injured in an alleged attack by an expelled leader of the party.
Mr Riar alleged that expelled BJP leader Satinder Singh rammed his jeep into his (Riar's) motorcycle while he was going around in the market to persuade shopkeepers to down their shutters in view of the bandh call by the BJP and the VHP.
Mr Riar, who was seriously injured in the incident and was hospitalised, alleged that the accused deliberately hit the jeep into his motorcycle in a cavalcade of about 70 motorbikes.
He said Satinder Singh nourished a grudge against him ever since he was expelled from the party. Satinder was expelled as he had contested the recent municipal elections in Gurdaspur as a rebel candidate against Riar, who was the BJP's official nominee in Ward No 20.
City police station incharge Malkiat Singh said a case had been registered on the basis of the written complaint by Mr Riar and any action would be taken in this regard after the medical report of the victim was available.
