Ex-Pondy Minister acquitted

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Jul 2 (UNI) A local court today acquitted former Puducherry Welfare Minister M Angalan, MLA, in a case pertaining to the harassment of his wife.

Cuddalore Judicial Magistrate-I Meenakumari acquitted Mr Angalan.

Mr Angalan's second wife Kavipriya had lodged a complaint with the all women police station at Villianur, alleging that he had been torturing her. Based on the complaint, police had registered a case against Mr Angalan, who was a Minister then. Subsequently, Mr Angalan had resigned from his post on November 19, 2006.

Though the case had been initially taken up by the Puducherry Judicial Magistrate-I court, Kavipriya had filed a petition with Madras High Court that since Mr Angalan was an influential person, she would not get justice if the case was conducted in Puducherry.

Hence, the High Court had transferred the case to the Cuddalore court.
