Congress decries BJP for its attempt to topple govt
New Delhi, Jul 2 (UNI) The Congress Party today asked BJP leader Jaswant Singh to come out with a public explanation regarding the facts of the report that he had tried to overthrow the UPA government during the last Presidential elections in 2007.
"This only proves what we had said all along that the BJP has never come to terms with its defeat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 and is unable to come to terms with the loss of power," AICC spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told mediapersons.
She said the report had also exposed the desperate attempt of the BJP to be in power at any cost. "These reports exposed the true nature of the BJP." Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh claimed yesterday that Mr Jaswant Singh had offered Mulayam Singh Yadav the Prime Ministership in a plan to replay the 1989-arrangement where BJP and Left came together to back VP Singh for the top post.
The offer, according to him, came in the thick of the 2007 presidential elections when the BJP was scouting for support across political spectrum for its candidate Bhairon Singh Shekhawat.
