2 held, goods worth Rs 75,000 seized
Pudukkottai, Jul 2: Customs officials arrested two people and a huge quantity of batteries, beedi bundles, T-shirts and other commodities, worth Rs 75,000, meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka, were seized from them, near Gopalapatnam coast here last night.
According to customs sources, a team of customs officials, acting on a tip off, conducted a search at the house of one Isheriff of Gopalapatnam and effected the seizure.
Based on this information, they also secured one Shakul Hamed, a key person involved in smuggling activities in that area.
The customs officials were interrogating the arrested people, sources added.
