Varsity's NSS volunteers swell

Tiruchirapalli, July 1 (UNI) The number of NSS volunteers under the Bharathidasan University would be exceeding 30,000 this year, according to University NSS Coordinator K Kanagaraju.

In an informal chat with newsmen here yesterday, he said the university already stood first among territorial universities in the entire State in having the highest number of NSS volunteers.

It was also the only university in the State with jurisdiction over the highest number of districts -- Tiruchirapalli, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Karur, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.

This year, the university had processed applications from several colleges for starting 45 units and government sanction for at least 30 units was expected, he said.
