TDP leader calls on Prakash Karat
New Delhi, Jul 1 (UNI) Mr Yerran Naidu, the Leader of the Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party an important constituent of the United National Progressive Alliance today called on CPI-M Chief Prakash Karat to discuss the controversial Indo-US nuclear deal.
Mr Naidu's meeting with CPI-M boss assumes significance and is obviously intended to prepare the ground for the July meeting between TDP supremo and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Mr Karat.
Prior to Mr Yerran Naidu's meeting, former TDP MP Rammohan Rao has already met Mr Karat to convey the TDP's views against Indo-US nuclear deal in its present form.
The TDP, which has Congress as it rival in Andhra Pradesh can't take a stand in favour of the nuclear deal but at the same time has to strike a balanced view of the Samajwadi Party's inclination to go with the Congress on the issue.
Talking to newspersons after the meeting, Mr Naidu said he was calling on Mr Karat as he was away from the national capital for a long period of time. He also expressed hope that the UNPA would take a 'united stand' on the nuclear deal after consultation with all parties. The TDP, he said, did not consider any political party as 'untouchable'.
