Nitish for SC status to weaker sections of Muslim community
Patna, Jul 1 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today advocated to grant scheduled castes status to extremely poorer section of muslims and the christian communities.
Mr Kumar said he had always supported the demand related to granting the SC status to weaker sections of Muslim and Christian communities.
''Several committees have recommended for granting SC status to weaker sections of these minority communities. But no decision has been taken by the Centre in this regard so far'', Mr Kumar said.
He urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take steps in this direction without any further delay.
Mr Kumar said the literacy level was very low among the muslim community and the state government had taken several measures to provide education facilities to them. Besides providing vocational training for girl students of the minorities, state government had also decided to give scholarships to the students of the muslim community, he added.
