Maintain peace, harmony: Jammu admin

Jammu, Jul 1 (UNI) Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) and Inspector General of Police (IGP) today appealed to the general public and religious organisations to maintain peace and communal harmony in the entire Jammu region.

The IGP of Jammu Zone K Rajindera assured full protection and security to all the yatris visiting here to pay obeisance at Amarnath and Vaishno Devi shrines.

However, he appealed to the people in Jammu not to pay heed to the false and baseless rumours being spread by mysterious elements for vested interests and assured that the administration will remain at the disposal of common masses.

''Police is trying to maintain utmost restrain, although many miscreants among the mobs attacked the police by pelting stones and in the ding-dong clashes, some police personnel were seriously injured besides three civilians,'' the IGP said.

However, Divisional Commissioner (Jammu) Sudhanshu Pandey also appealed the people to remain united and maintain tranquility.
