Loan waiver successfully completed within 30 days: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Jul 01 (UNI) The government today claimed the loan waiver scheme that was announced in the Budget 2008-09 has been successfully completed within the prescribed time indicated by the centre.

''We have successfully completed the ambitious Rs 72,000 crore loan waiver scheme in 30 days,'' Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters while inaugurating State Bank branch here today.

The farm loan waiver and the debt relief scheme will benefit about four crore small and marginal farmers across the country, Mr Chidabaram said.

The government had asked about 71,479 banks to complete the loan waiver by June 30.
