Landslides block Himalayan road, cuts Sikkim from India
Kalimpong (West Bengal), July 1 : Monsoon rains triggered heavy landslides in Kalimpong in Himalayas on Monday, snapping road link to Sikkim with rest of India.
Hundreds of vehicles were stranded on the strategic National Highway (NH) 31-A.
"Workers are engaged on a war footing to remove blockades due to landslides. Police arealso inspecting the site," said K. B. Dorjee, Additional Superintendent of Police, Kalimpong subdivision.
Men of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) deployed heavy machinery to clear the debris.
