HP to have policy for persons with disabilities: Sarveen
Shimla, Jul 1 (UNI) Reiterating its commitment for the empowerment of the disable, Himachal Pradesh Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Sarveen Chaudhary today said the state government will soon come out with a policy for persons with disabilities.
The state government would come out with a policy for the disabled in the next two months, she said while presiding over a children's workshop on disability rights here.
The workshop was organised by Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies in which 90 disabled children from different schools of Shimla, representatives of various NGOs and university participated.
Ms Chaudhary said various welfatre schemes were being implemented for the welfare of the disabled and special children in the state and added they were being provided free education up to the university level.
As many as 23,011 special children were being provided education under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan whereas 2,456 such children were being provided education under the ''education at door step'' programme.
She said 548 such people have also been employed in various government services in a phased manner.
The minister also appreciated the role of the NGOs for their efforts to rehabilitate the disabled.
