Hindu outifts block roads over Amarnath land issue

Jalandhar, Jul 1 (UNI) Various Hindu organisations today blocked roads at PAP Chowk here and burned the effigy of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad over Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) land issue.

Protesting against the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Government for taking back forest land allotted to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board, the members of Hindu Jagriti Manch, Manav Kalyan Sangathan, Hindu Ekta Manch, Jan Jagriti Manch, Ambedkar Sena Punjab and Brahmin Sabha blocked roads and set Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's effigy on fire.

The protestors demanded that forest land, which was earlier allotted to SASB and then taken back, should immediately be transferred back to Shrine Board. They also demanded implementation of President rule in Jammu and Kashmir and security for the pilgrims.

The protestors submitted a memorandum, addressed to President Pratibha Patil, to Deputy Commissioner in this regard.
