Centre approves Rs 916.62 lac for Orissa road development works

New Delhi, July 1 (UNI) The Centre has sanctioned Rs 916.62 lakh to Orissa for carrying out road improvement works in the state.

An amount of Rs 671.59 lakh has been approved by Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways Thiru T R Baalu for Improvement of Riding Quality (IRQP) from km 62/0 to 72/0 and 85/0 to 87/0 (Sambalpur-Nagpur Section) and an amount of Rs 245.03 lakh for road improvement works under IRQP for various stretches of NH-6 in the state.

This road, which is considered to be the lifeline for the traffic commuting between Kolkata and Mumbai, is a link for commercial activities between northern coastal and western parts in Orissa.

Stretches of the road have developed cracks and pot-holes due to heavy rains and plying of heavy vehicles, resulting in loss of the riding quality.

Hence, funds have been sanctioned to improve these stretches, an official release said here today.
