Boost Cup inter-school cricket in Punjab

Mohali, Jul 1 (UNI) The second Inter-School Boys Under-16 Cricket Tournament for the Boost Cup will commence on July 10 with the Punjab Inter-District round, involving schools from six districts.

Announcing this at a joint press conference at the PCA Stadium here today, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) joint secretary MP Pandove and Procam International Director Operations, P N Sankaran said the format of the Boost Cup has evolved over 11 years and from two cities and 100 schools in the first year the event has now spread to 18 cities and over 450 schools.

The 2008-09 edition will feature Intra-City competiton among schools from eight centres-- Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Baroda, they said.

Punjab has been demarcated into six major districts and nine minor districts. Chandigarh, Mohali, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Patiala and Amritsar are the major districts The minor districts will be further divided into two zones.

A minimum of four schools from each of the major districts will participate. Top two teams of two minor zones will join the winners of the major districts for a league-cum-knockout to play the inter-district championship in Chandigarh.

The winners of the same will represent Punjab in the Boost Inter-City Challenge and also the BCCI Inter-School Championship.

Cash prizes and attractive Nike cricket kits are in store for those who excell in the Intra-City and Inter-City Championship. The winners and runners-up in Intra-City Challenge stand to gain Rs 15,000 and Rs 9,000 respectively.
