Students lock up Pondy Govt school

Puducherry, Jun 30: Tension prevailed at P S Palayam in Mannadipet constituency as the students and their parents locked up the P S Palayam Government High School and resorted to a road blockade, demanding the upgradation of the school into a higher secondary school.

The prents contended that the students had to approach the Government higher secondary school at Madagadippet, more than five km away from their village, for plus one. This year, students who obtained good marks in their SSLC examination, could not get the desired groups in the Madagadippet school, following the Government Order that students of the same school should be accommodated first.

Following the agitation, vehicular traffic was disrupted for more than one hour in the area.

Police and senior Education department officals held talks with the agitators and pacified them.
