Sarpanch sent to jail for ransacking forest check gate

Kendrapara, Jun 30 (UNI) A Sarpanch was sent to jail on charges of ransacking the Khola forest check gate, under Rajnagar Police Station of the district.

Pattamundai Judicial Magistrate (First Class) remanded Sanabadagopalpur Gram Panchayat Sarpanch Sailendra Kumar Swain in judicial custody after rejecting his bail petitions.

Mr Swain was arrested under Section 332, 294, 427 ,506 and 34 IPC; Section 3 of Prohibition to Damage Public Property(PDPP) Act on Friday last, Officer-in-Charge of Rajanagar Police Station, Subash Panda said.

Police said the Sarpanch along with some of his supporters had ransacked the Khola forest gate, under Bhitarkanika National Park, on March one and allegedly assaulted a forest guard after the forest department expressed their inability to provide room to the Sarpanch and his supporters due to non -availability of rooms.

Police said efforts were on to arrest the supporters of the Sarpancha.
