NYL suspects conspiracy behind book stir
Kozhikode, June 30 (UNI) The ongoing state-wide agitation in Kerala, demanding the withdrawal of a controversial textbook from the school curriculum was part of a ''political conspiracy'' hatched by the Opposition parties in the State, the pro-Indian National League(INL) National Youth League (NYL) said today.
Speaking at a press meet, NYL State President N K Abdul Azeez alleged that the stir launched by the pro-IUML Muslim Students Federation and the pro-Congress Kerala Students Union on the issue was part of a well planned conspiracy hatched by the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) to meet their political agenda in the State.
Describing the agitation as ''detrimental to the interests of Muslims and minorities as a whole,'' he said that besides certain political parties, the Sangh Parivar and ''mafia' were also behind the move.
The youth leader said ''nothing objectionable could be found if one undertook a careful scrutiny of the controversial portion of the VII Class Social Studies textbook,'' which allegedly propagated ''atheism and anti-religious sentiments.'' Terming the Indian Union Muslim League's decision to launch an awareness campaign in mosques on the issue as dangerous, Mr Azeez said the believers would come out with strong opposition against using religious places for political purpose.
To expose the hidden agenda of the UDF, the NYL would launch a propaganda campaign throughout the State from July 10 to 30, he added.
