Srinagar, Jun 30 (UNI) The National Conference (NC), main opposition party in the Jammu and Kashmir, today ruled out extending support to the Ghulam Nabi Azad -led Congress government in the state.
''We in fact urged Governor N N Vohra to call the assembly session immediately to test the majority of the government on the floor of the house,'' NC president Omar Abdullah said.
He said he accompanied by leader of the NC in the house Abdul Rahim Rather met the Governor on his invitation at Raj Bhavan this afternoon.
''The Governor had invited us to discuss the constitutional position arising out of withdrawal of support by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the Azad government,'' he said.
He said, ''we informed the governor that the NC has no intention whatsoever of supporting the Congress government in the state.'' He also urged the Governor to call the assembly session to test the majority of the government on the floor of the house.
A spokesman for the NC said earlier two-day NC legislature party meeting concluded today.
The meeting unanimously demanded that government immediately revoke the order of transfer of land to Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) to defuse the tension.
