Madras High Court orders notice to Centre

Chennai, June 30 (UNI) Madras High Court today ordered a notice to the Centre on a petition seeking to ensure uninterrupted supply of ordinary petrol and diesel to dealers and the public in Tamil Nadu.

Admitting a writ petition, filed by an AIADMK advocate, the First Bench, comprising Chief Justice A K Ganguly and Mr Justice F M Ibrahim Khalifullah, directed the Centre to file its counter within four days and posted the case to July four for further hearing.

In his petition, the Advocate R Balasubramanian submitted that during the past four years, the Centre had effected a steep hike in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, citing the increase in the prices of crude oil in the global market.

After hiking the price of diesel and petrol, the public sector oil companies were selling the same ordinary petrol and diesel as premium branded fuels at a higher price, he contended.
