Lifer for two in child sacrifice case

Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, June 30 (UNI) A Fast Track Court here today sentenced the prime accused in a child sacrifice case to life imprisonment.

In his order, Judge K Asokan ordered life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on Krishnaraj (26) and Kadiresan (60) while Krishnaraj's father Rajavel, mother Vasantha and four other relatives were awarded three years and a fine of Rs 10,000 each.

Two of the accused were set free due to lack of evidence.On May 13, 2005, Krishnaraj of Sethiathope killed Sateesh Kumar (6) of Arathadikuppam at his semi-finished house following advice from Soothsayer Kadiresan.

Kadiresan asked Krishnaraj to give a child in sacrifice if he wanted to complete building the house, the work on which had been pending for long despite the family having adequate resources.

Krishnaraj kidnapped Sateesh Kumar, killed him at the house and dumped the body in a forest.

Police arrested ten people in this connection following a complaint lodged by the deceased's parents.
