K'taka plans to provide drinking water to ULBs from river sources

Bangalore, Jun 30 (UNI) Karnataka Municipal Administration Minister Suresh Kumar today said his Ministry was planning to provide drinking water to 39 Urban Local Bodies in the state from river sources.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the Ministry had been providing drinking water to these Urban Local Bodies from bore wells and now planned to provide it from surface water sources like dams.

He said the government would lay down new water lines to the main towns and supply water to the villages on its course.

To a question, he said there would be no inter-state dispute in utilising water from dams for drinking purpose.

The state was thinking of using water from the river basins as the under ground water level was going down in the state.

Mr Kumar said the department officials were asked to submit a report within a month for the implementation of the project for the water lines.

He said there were more than 400 night soil carriers in the state and the Ministry planned to remove the old system by providing proper rehabilitation to them by March.
