Five policemen killed in landmine explosion
Ranchi, Jun 30 (UNI) Five policemen, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police, were killed and two constables injured in a landmine explosion, triggered by Naxalites at Pundidiric under Tamar Police Station in Ranchi district of Jharkhand today.
A police team, led by DSP Pramode Kumar, from Bundu Police Station was carrying out a raid after being tipped off that some Naxalites were hiding near Lungtudu hills.
As they were crossing the culvert during their return journey, landmines exploded at 1630 hours, blowing away the vehicle carrying the patrol team.
While three died on the spot, the rest succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital, police spokesperson R K Mullick said.
The condition of the two injured, admitted to Apollo hospital, was stated to be critical.
