Farmers stage rasta roko against fertilisers shortage

Mysore, June 30 (UNI) Hundreds of farmers of Hunsur taluk in Mysore district staged a rasta roko for more than four hours, affecting vehicular movement on Mysore-Mangalore state highway, in protest against the non-availability of fertilisers.

The agitating members of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) were demanding immedidate supply of fertilisers.

Deputy Commssioner of Police P Manivannan rushed to the spot and assured the farmers that fertilisers would be supplied immediately.

''The delay was due to non-arrival of 28 tonne of fertilisers sent from Mangalore yesterday and it would reach this evening,'' he added.

Following the assurance, the farmers withdrew their agitation.
