Extortionist flees after firing at police

Mumbai, June 30 (UNI) An extortionist escaped the police dragnet in the early hours today at Ghatkopar here after opening fire on the cops.

Jamal Sheikh fire four round at the police team before making his escape. The police too opened fire but no one was injured in the exchange.

A businessman had registered a complaint against Sheikh with the police yesterday alleging that the latter was making extortion threats.

Acting upon the complaint, a police team swooped upon Sheikh near a ''Dargah'' in the wee hours today. The police asked him to surrender. Instead, Sheikh fired upon the police and escaped.
