Court rejects rape vitim's plea against NCP corporator

Thane, Jun 30 (UNI) A local court here rejected the application filed by rape victim, who was allegedly sexually abused by Thane Municipal Corporator of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Najeeb Mulla, for more than two years after being promised marriage.

The victim in her application to District Magistrate, prayed for the continuity of the court proceedings based on her complaint against Mulla lodged on January 18, 2008. In her complaint she had stated that since 2006 Mulla had been in an illicit relationship with her and promised to marry her.

On January 19, 2008, both of them met and discussed the issue.

Mulla had convinced her to withdraw the complaint assuring he would marry her soon. Following this, the victim withdrew the complaint on January 20, 2008. But after that Mulla discontinued contacts with her and she learnt that he was planning to marry some other girl.

Therefore, she appealed to continue the court proceedings.

However, the court last week rejected the application and directed Mira Road police for re-investigation in the matter.

The victim had come to stay at a relative's place from Solapur for few days. The girl's relative, who was lady officer of the Integrated Child Development Project at Palghar, had abetted the crime. Dandekar and the officer went absconding.
