Congress demands withdrawal of objectionable posters
New Delhi, Jun 30 (UNI) The Congress today came down heavily on the BJP for displaying posters and banners in Uttar Pradesh portraying Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Party President Sonia Gandhi as vultures, and said the main Opposition Party was taking the message of hatred to a new low.
"We believe that these posters and banners depict the low, intolerant and violent mindset of the BJP," AICC Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told mediapersons and appealed to the BJP leadership to withdraw them immediately.
She said posters and banners showed Dr Singh and Ms Gandhi as vultures with BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani, attired as Lord Ram, shooting arrows to kill the vultures.
"To have differences of opinion is the very basis of political activity, but it should not be taken to a new low," Ms Natarajan said.
"We strongly condemn these posters and the mindset of the BJP," she said.
