Amarnath land issue: Congress targets Lt Gen Sinha
New Delhi, June 30 (UNI) As the Amarnath land issue snowballed into a major political tussle, the Congress Party today alleged that former Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt.Gen(retd) S K Sinha had left a communal situation behind.
"Wherever he goes, there has been a situation to stoke communal passion. Earlier he was in Assam and later in Jammu and Kashmir," AICC Spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told mediapersons, while replying to a question on the role of Lt.Gen Sinha who was replaced by Mr N N Vora as Governor 20 days ago.
Ms Natarajan earlier said that it was the policy of the Congress not to comment on the actions of any Constitutional post.
She criticised the BJP for 'communalising' the Amarnath Yatra.
"The pilgrimage to Amarnath Shrine has been happening for centuries in peaceful atmosphere. There was no threat to yatris." Ms Natarajan said the first priority should be to restore peace in Jammu and Kashmir. The Congress government had already guaranteed safety to yatris.
