Syro-Malabar warns Left govt in Kerala against textbook

Kochi, June 29 (UNI) The Syro-Malabar Church today warned the LDF government in Kerala that it would oppose the efforts of the government to ''vitiate young minds with communist ideology.'' A circular, issued by Major Archbishop Mar Varkey Vithayathil, was read out in all parish churches under the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese today, accused the LDF government of injecting ''atheism and communism'' in school children through the class VII textbooks.

Demanding the withdrawal of the textbooks, the church urged the Education Minister M A Baby to desist from blasphemy.

Copies of the textbooks were also burnt by churchgoers in certain parishes.
