President advocates for R

Bhopal, Jun 29: President Pratibha Devisingh Patil stressed on the need for research and development and advancement of new technologies to alleviate poverty in the country.

Inaugurating People's Group state-of-the-art Centre for Scientific Research and Development here, Ms Patil said, ''Research and Development plays a pivotal role in development and it would be beneficial for the country if such private organisations contribute in this field.'' She lauded the contribution of People's Group in the field of education, health and public services in a span of only five-year time.

''I am overwhelmed to see the unique work of the People's group, which is progressing rapidly and contributing handsomely in the country's progress,'' the President said.

In her unscheduled brief speech, the President expressed her willingness to come to this institution within one year to oversee its further progress.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Balaram Jakhar, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Education, Health and Family Welfare Minister Gaurishankar Shejwar were present on the occasion.
