Govt committed to welfare of poor: YSR
Hyderabad, June 29 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the state government was committed to the welfare of the poor and would provide all benefits under welfare schemes to those eligible in the near future.
During the last four and half years, the government had taken up several welfare schemes like issue of ration cards, construction of houses, distribution of pension to widows, free power supply to farmers and supply of subsidised rice at Rs two a kg among others for the benefit of the poor, an official press release quoted him as saying.
Stating the government's aim was to provide all welfare schemes to the people in the next six months, he directed the District Collectors to strive hard to achieve the government's targets.
He said the government's intention was to provide irrigated water to one crore acre of land in the state for which it had already taken various steps.
A district collectors meet would be held here on July two where their performance would be monitored based on the implementation of the welfare schemes initiated in their districts, he added.
