Church on warpath against LDF Govt. on textbook issue

Kochi, Jun 29 (UNI) The Syro-Malabar Church today warned the LDF Government that it will oppose all efforts to ''vitiate young minds with Communist ideology''.

A circular issued by Major Archbishop Mar Varkey Vithayathil, read out in all parish churches under the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese today, accused the LDF Government of injecting atheism and communism in school children through the Class VII textbooks.

Demanding the withdrawal of the textbooks, the Church exhorted the education minister to desist from blasphemy.

Copies of the textbooks were also burnt by churchgoers in certain parishes.
