Police seize huge cache of arms

Aizawl, Jun 28 (UNI) Close on the heels of the arrest of eight militants, Aizawl Police CID (special branch) here today seized a huge cache of firearms, including 19 AK-47 rifles.

Police said that two persons, a local and a Myanmarese, were arrested. Police also recovered Rs 3.5 lakhs from them.

''We were informed about the arms dealing here. Laying a trap our under-cover agents had a chance to contact the arms dealers and finally arrested them with cache of fire arms, including the AK-47 rifles, a Chinese pistol and 8000 ammunition,'' police added.

The CID sleuths had arrested eight members of the Bru Liberation Front of Mizoram and Dema Halam Doagah (DHD), a Dimasa tribe-based ultra, with a AK-47 rifle a few days back.

The arrested militants were on their way to buy the arms and ammunition. The arms were said to be smuggled from Myanmar, police said.
