Bear responsibility of violence in Pondy: AIADMK
Puducherry, Jun 28: Taking strong exception to the violence allegedly unleashed by a group of people, supporters of Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, here, yesterday following rumours about his resignation, AIADMK state Secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, today demanded that the Congress should bear the responsibility for the incident.
Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan said the Congress should not only bear the responsibility for the incident, but also compensate for the loss incurred by the traders.
He said the party would lodge complaints with the Union Home Ministry and the Election Commission in this regard and would seek a ban on the Puducherry unit of the Congress.
As the ''tussle'' between the Chief Minister and the ministers reached the climax, the ''supporters of the Chief Minister'' resorted to violence, following rumours that he was asked to step down by the party high command.
Alleging that the police, who should protect the public, remained mere spectators, he said in such a situation, the AIADMK would act as the ''protector'' of the people.
On the reported remarks made by Chief Secretary Rakesh Bihari against the Council of Ministers, Mr Anbazhagan said there was no evidence to prove the allegation and if he had said so, it needed to be condemned.
