BJP bags three K'taka Council seats

Bangalore, Jun 28 (UNI) The ruling BJP has bagged three of the five seats declared so far and was leading in another in the biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council, for which counting was taken up today.

The victorious candidates were Mohan Limbikai, Shashil G Namoshi and Kota Srinivas Poojary.

In the other two constituencies for which results were awaited, Puttanna of the JD(S) was leading in Bangalore Teacher's constituency and Dr Shivayogi Swamy (BJP) in South East Graduates constituency.

Mr Limbikai defeated Congress heavy weight H K Patil, the former Leader of the Opposition in the Council, by nearly 4,000 votes from the West Graduates constituency.

Mr Namoshi won from the North East Teachers constituency, defeating Annaraya Ajagonda of the Congress, while Mr Poojary defeated his nearest rival Nityanand Mondodi of the Congress from local body constituency.

Mr Namoshi, who won for the third time, polled 10,533 votes, while Mr Poojary secured 3,110 votes.
