Perunna, Jun 28: Kerala Congress leader R Balakrishna Pillai was elected to the Director Board of the Nair Service Society (NSS) after a gap of more than 25 years, NSS General Secretary P K Narayana Panicker told newspersons here.
P K Narayana Panicker, G Sukumaran Nair, Nedumangadu R Gopalan Nair, N V Ayyappan Pillai. Klanjoor Madhu, K N Viswanathan, S R Rajagopal and N S Prabhakaran Pillai were also re-elected to the 27-member Board.
Later, talking to newspersons here, NSS General Secretary P K Narayana Panicker reiterated that the NSS would maintain equi distance from all political parties and would not interfere with the internal matters of any political party, religion or community. Mr Panicker charged that State Cooperation Minister G Sudhakaran was the mouthpiece of the CPI (M) criticising the NSS and its leadership. Instead of controlling the minister, the CPI(M) leadership was supporting him.
Demanding the state government to withdraw a controversial textbook, he said the CPI(M) was creating communal and religious hatred for gaining political mileage and propagating atheism in the state.
In a resolution, the NSS appealed to the government to constitute a separate corporation and department for the welfare of the backward section in forward communities.
